Twitter Coming Out With ‘Professional Profiles’ For Businesses

Twitter is the latest platform to introduce a separate profile that businesses can use to distinguish themselves from normal users.

Between bot traffic, intermittent lockouts and account errors, Twitter has been an inconsistent place for businesses. For big brands, the appeal is obvious since they have the resources to handle constant communication, but small or medium-sized businesses have been left out. With this update, Twitter is hoping to position themselves as a platform that those businesses can use to grow their audience too.

Since these are still the early days as far as the profiles being rolled out, it’s hard to say what a completed version will look like, but a few of the rumors point to the following extra features:

  • Business categories
  • Different badge types
  • Product display panels
  • Image galleries
  • Enhanced business description
  • Address & link to direct contact
  • Showcase of pinned tweets
  • Content showcase
  • Updated layout
  • App Store links
  • Customer reviews

Dividing out brand profiles on Twitter could lead to some interesting opportunities for small and medium-sized businesses, so we’ll continue to monitor further updates. For now, Twitter is starting with a small group of brands in the app and looking for feedback so you may not see these updates for a few months.
