Get to Know Murray Stell

Born and raised in Texas, I grew up immersed in the outdoors, spending my time fishing, hunting, and playing a variety of sports. At the age of 14, I took my first step into the workforce and started saving, eventually buying my first truck—a 1969 Ford F100. With no prior experience, I learned the ropes of auto repair using nothing but a Chilton repair guide, repairing or replacing almost every part under the hood and undercarriage of that beloved truck.

While this may sound like the start of an automotive career, I instead set my sights on retail management, where I spent 30 years working with some of the biggest brands across Texas, Louisiana, and Georgia. In 2015, I was ready for a new challenge, and I transitioned into SaaS sales. I first entered the construction market, which eventually led me into the automotive industry, a sector I deeply enjoy for the diversity of people I interact with and the unique challenges they face.

In my work, I’m driven by my passion for solving problems and helping shop owners connect more effectively with their customers. I take pride in promoting products and services that genuinely make people’s lives easier and see myself as more than just a salesperson; I’m a consultant and a partner in every relationship I build.

Outside of my career, I am a proud husband of 35 years and a father to three amazing daughters, as well as a proud grandfather to three lovely granddaughters. Family is at the core of everything I do, and I continue to find joy in the moments we share together.

Analysis Paralysis Is Costing You Customers

In the latest episode of Maximum Octane (Ep. 128), Doug Robison, our very own Director of Sales and Partnerships, joins hosts Kim Hickey and Jason Patel to tackle a common challenge faced by shop owners: analysis paralysis. This phenomenon occurs when business owners become overwhelmed by the multitude of marketing options—SEO, social media, websites, ads—and end up making no decisions at all.

Key Insights from Doug:

The Cost of Overthinking:  Doug emphasizes that while planning and strategy are important, they are meaningless without action. Waiting for the perfect moment or plan only delays results.

The Importance of Partnerships:  He advises shop owners to view marketing as a partnership rather than a "do it for me" service. Collaboration with experts can lead to more effective and sustainable marketing efforts.

Consistency Over Perfection:  Doug highlights that consistency in marketing efforts often yields better results than striving for perfection. Regular, authentic engagement with customers builds trust and drives traffic.

Understanding Algorithms:  He explains how algorithms on websites and social platforms work together to drive traffic, stressing the importance of creating content that aligns with these algorithms.

The Role of Websites:  Despite the rise of social media, Doug asserts that having a well-maintained website is crucial. It serves as the central hub for all marketing activities and plays a significant role in SEO.

Artificial Intelligence: Friend or Foe? A Shop Owner's Guide

Discover how to put AI to work for your business—leveraging its power to boost efficiency, creativity, and results, without losing

the humanity that sets your brand apart.

Getting Real About AI: "Add YOU to it" with Carm Capriotto

ODM's Director of Sales and Partnerships, Doug Robison, and Director of Operations, Jordan Greene, had the honor of joining the Remarkable Results Radio podcast with Carm Capriotto! In Episode 416, they explored the fascinating (and sometimes bizarre!) ways AI is transforming how we work every day. But here’s the thing: it’s not about replacing human creativity—it’s about enhancing it. Plus, fact-checking and sourcing are more important than ever.

Here’s a glimpse of what is discussed:

1. How AI can support, not replace, your marketing and customer service strategies.
2. Addressing concerns like tone and fact-checking in AI-generated content.
3. Keeping your business human-centered, especially when replying to reviews.
